Former India and Bengal fast bowler Subroto Guha died of a massive heart attack at his residence in Mumbai on Wednesday. He was 56.

According to his family members, Guha had a massive heart attack at five in the morning and breathed his last before medical assistance could be administered.

He played in four Test matches for India between 1967 and '69, and took just three wickets, two catches and scored 17 runs in them.

He made his international debut against England at Leeds in 1967 and also went on to play three more Test matches against Australia, with career-best figures of two for 55.

A right-arm medium pace bowler and right-hand batsman, coming lower down the order, Guha was not a big success in Test cricket, but very successful while playing for Bengal and sharing the new ball with Chunni Goswami. He took 299 first class wickets from 85 matches.

He leaves behind his wife and two sons, who are both in the United States.
