Subscribers of wireless in local loop phones opting for full mobility should brace themselves for a change in numbering, with Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Tuesday recommending that numbering scheme for full mobility, provided by basic operators now migrated to unified licence regime, should be at the same level as that of cellular subscribers.
"Based on the principle of level-playing field, all fully mobile cellular services irrespective of technology deployed should be treated at par as far as numbering scheme is concerned.
"Numbering scheme for full mobility provided by existing basic service operators who have migrated to unified access service licence should be at the same level (level 9) as that of cellular subscribers," a Trai statement said.
In its recommendations on numbering issues following unified access service licence migration, Trai said for CDMA technology mobile phones or GSM technology phones, a 10-digit national significant number should be followed.
Currently, the WLL phones follow an 8-digit numbering scheme.
