Raman Roy, president and chief executive officer of Wipro BPO Solutions, has resigned. Meanwhile, Wipro on Monday informed the stock exchanges that it had appointed T K Kurien in Roy's place.
The 48-year old Roy had founded Spectramind eServices that was later acquired by Wipro Ltd in July of 2002 for a whopping Rs 407 crore (Rs 4.07 billion).
Till a quarter back Wipro BPO Solutions was called Wipro Spectramind.
Top sources at Wipro confirmed that Roy had indeed put in his papers and an announcement would be made later in the day. Roy according to these sources had quit to start something of his own.
Roy is regarded as a pioneer of the IT-enabled services business in India and played a key role in proving the country's capability as a destination for remote processing.
He led the Indian operations of the two top players in this arena -- GE Capital and American Express.
