France has assured India that it would look into the problems being faced by Indian IT professionals in getting visas and work permits.

Telecom and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran discussed the issue with his French counterpart Patrick Devedjian in Paris, who assured that he would look into the problem and do his best to resolve it, an official release said in New Delhi.

During the meeting, the two exchanged views on developments in telecommunications like mobile technology, broadband and other related areas.

Maran also met Alcatel chief Serge Tchuruk and asked the company to increase its presence in India.

"Since Alcatel has a platform of cooperation with ITI in India, it (Alcatel) should try and expand this platform and work through it in future projects, including research and development," Maran said.

According to the release, it was agreed that Alcatel would set up a working group within the company to examine additional projects in India.
