"Very soon we will see Internet browsing in the running trains. Even small railway stations will have the computer reservation facility, and many railway stations can have the Internet kiosks in very near future," Bandaru Dathatreya, the minister of state for railways, said at a meeting in Visakhapatnam.

He was inaugurating the Rs 50-crore (Rs 500 million) 890-km optic fiber cable network between Visakhapatnam and Howrah.

RailTel is laying 35,000-km long OFC network. By December 2003, nearly 26,000 km OFC network would be laid. Once this cabling work completes, the railways will able to provide the Internet and IT-enabled services at very low prices, he said.
