According to the figures released by the IT hardware industry body MAIT, the total PC (which include desktops, netbooks, notebooks) sales increased marginally by one per cent to 37.1 lakh between April and September 2009 compared to the same period last fiscal.
"Although the sales growth was subdued in the enterprises, the overall consumption in the PC market was led by telecom, BFSI, education and household segments," MAIT executive director Vinnie Mehta said.
However, with the market sentiments improving in the later part of the fiscal, MAIT expects PC sales to pick-up.
"PC sales are expected to cross 73 lakh units in FY 2009- 10, growing at seven per cent," he added.
In the first six months, the notebook sales have overtaken the sale of desktops. While sale of desktops fell 11 per cent at 26.1 lakh units compared to 29.1 lakh units sold in the same period last year, netbook and notebook sales increased by 43 per cent.
In the first six months of the fiscal nearly 11 lakh netbooks and notebooks were sold.
