The Infosys facility in Mysore has been brought under CISF security cover, the third private sector installation to get government protection.

A special unit of 48 commandos of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) took over the security of the sprawling campus at the Hebbal Electronics City at Hootagalli.

The Mysore facility of the Infosys is the third private sector unit in the country to be provided the security cover of the central para-military force after the Infosys campus and the Electronics city complex, both located in Bangalore, were extended the same protection.

The Infosys had requested the government for a security cover at their Mysore facility, similar to the one they got in July last year for their Bangalore campus.  It will ensure a 24x7 cover to the facility where thousands of trainees and senior professionals of Infosys.

Vehicle mounted Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) armed with sophisticated weapons will be keeping a tight vigil at the campus which is an important installation keeping in view the security and terror threat, a CISF officer said.

The 48-personnel CISF security team is mandated with "anti-terrorist and anti-sabotage" duties, and the personnel will not be responsible for "watch and ward" duties which will continue to be provided by the private security guards employed at the campus.

The Mysore deployment will be the third assignment for the CISF after the force was mandated to protect the private sector with an amendment in the CISF Act in January this year, in the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
