Tata Consultancy Services would set up a development centre at Gandhinagar, official sources said in Ahmedabad on Friday.
This was announced by TCS managing director S Ramadorai after a meeting with Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
The centre will be established at the Infocity in Gandhinagar and spread over 20 acres, they added.
"It would have the best IT infrastructure facilities and become fully operational within 18 months. TCS would expand its activities soon and in the coming two years the centre will generate employment for close to 2000 young IT professionals besides 10,000 other people", the sources said quoting Ramadorai.
Modi has welcomed TCS's entry, saying it would usher in 'magnetic change' in the fast-growing IT sector of the state, the sources said.
"Entry of TCS marks the expeditious growth in IT sector as well as capital investment for Gujarat. Also small and medium IT companies will benefit from this," Modi said.
The chief minister also apprised Ramadorai about Gujarat State Wide Area Network being the biggest Internet protocol in Asia-Pacific and second largest in the world.
