No tax at source on liquor, scrap, timber

The government has once again postponed the decision to collect tax at source from sellers of liquor, scrap and timber.

"Presently, various representations received in this regard are still under consideration of the government. It has, therefore, been decided to further postpone the date of coming into effect the amendments (to Section 206C of the Finance Act) till a final decision is taken," an official statement said in New Delhi.

The Finance Act, 2003 had made certain amendments to the Section 206C, following which representations were received from various quarters, including the state governments.
