Having spent 33 long years with the Tata Group in different capacities in steel, power and telecom sector, Firdose Vandrevala has quit the group and joined telecom multinational Motorola as head of Indian operations.

"Motorola places high importance on the India market as part of its global strategy. Vandrevala's abilities, coupled with Motorola's technological leadership, are expected to help the company realise its growth objectives for India, which include next-generation technologies," senior officials said on Wednesday.

Vandrevala would also be responsible for enhancing Motorola's ability to support integrated solutions for customers.

Asked about reasons for leaving the Tatas after serving the group for over three decades, Vandrevala said, "Working in the telecom space and being part of India's telecom revolution is perhaps the most exciting thing today."

On his loyalty to the Tata Group, he said, "I intend to remain loyal to Tatas even now. Only difference is now I shall be serving the group in a different capacity."

Declining to make any announcement, he said Motorola, which is number two worldwide in mobile devices business, would see its share rising in the coming years.

The company is likely to launch a few new products in the Indian market, Vandrevala said, adding that his aim would be to bring the entire range of Motorola products to India.
