Congress on Friday sought the dismissal of Divestment Minister Arun Shourie from the Cabinet for his statement terming as "idiotic" the Comptroller and Auditor General's report on the sale of Centaur Hotel in Mumbai saying he had no respect for the Constitution and its authority.
Assailing the minister's statement, senior party leader Kapil Sibal said Bharatiya Janata Party-led government has been targeting constitutional institutions one after another ever since it came to power and wanted to know from the people whether they want to elect a government, which has no respect for constitutional authority and its norms.
Reiterating his party's stand to oppose government's existing divestment policy and demanding transparency in the process, Sibal said the money should be invested in social security for common people rather than managing deficits.
Asked if there were irregularities in the divestments of public sector undertakings, Sibal said it was for the government to go into it and asserted that the Centaur hotel sale in Mumbai was a "deliberate case of selling to a designated buyer".
Shourie on Thursday had hit out at the CAG for making adverse observations in the Centaur case terming as "idiotic" the method for computing notional loss.
