Sensex ends up over 590 points, Satyam gains 8%

The Sensex opened with a huge positive gap of 172 points at 17,821, but dropped to a low of 17,535 in morning deals.

Buying at lower levels saw the index zoom to a high of 18,312 towards the closing bell - an intra-day swing of 777 points.

The Sensex finally closed with a gain of 594 points at 18242. The NSE Nifty finished with a gain of 180 points at 5,317. The BSE market breadth was bearish - out of 2,795 scrips traded, 1,606 declined.

Index Gainers...

Satyam zoomed over 8% to Rs 421. TCS gained over 6% at Rs 929. Infosys was up nearly 6% at Rs 1,591, and Wipro was also up nearly 6% at Rs 437.

Tata Motors advanced nearly 7% to Rs 754. Maruti added over 6% to Rs 905. Bajaj was up nearly 4% at Rs 2,450.

Reliance added 2.5% at Rs 2,542. ICICI Bank gained 4.5% at Rs 1,198. Bharti moved up 5% to Rs 908.

ITC, Tata Steel, ONGC and HDFC also gained nearly 5% each.

Future Capital Ends Day 1 With 19% Gain  
 
Future Capital was listed on the BSE at Rs 1,044 as against the issue price of Rs 765 per share. After moving between a high of Rs 1,100 and low of Rs 826, the stock finally closed with a gain of 19% (Rs 143) at Rs 908.
The share closed at Rs 910 on the NSE.

Most Active Counters

Future Capital was the most active counter with a turnover of Rs 784 crore followed by Reliance Energy (Rs 246 crore), Reliance Petroleum (Rs 178 crore), RNRL (Rs 177 crore) and Reliance (Rs 162 crore).
