It was a volatile session but the markets closed in the positive territory off from the day's lows. The frontliners made modest gains, however, continued buying was seen in midcap and smallcap stocks. The Asian markets were trading in a tight range throughout the day and closed weak.
Sensex, Nifty have notched up 3% during the week and have been able to sustain above the important levels of 11000 and 3200 respectively.
The Sensex closed flat at 11,192.46 up 43.29 points. The Nifty gained 14 points to close at 3274.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,596.61 up 109 points or 2%.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,617.42 up 57 points or 1.24%.
Most of the BSE sectoral indices closed in the positive terrain.
the BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 2.3% at 5,204.23. Reliance, MRPL, GAIL and Petronet LNG closed higher.
The BSE Consumer Durables Index gained 2.28% at 2,965.65. Su-Raj Diamonds, Blue Star, BPL, Titan Industries and Whirlpool were among top gainers
The BSE IT Index was up by 1.14% at 4,141.91 moved up. Hexaware Tech, Mphasis BFL, Infosys, HCL Info and Moser Baer jumped
The BSE Auto Index gained 1% at 4,713.06. Hero Honda, Bharat Forge, Sundram and TVS Motor were among the top gainers.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.8% at 7,485.56. HEG, Dredging Corp, KEC Infrastructure, Siemens, and Aban LoydChiles closed higher.
The BSE Metal Index advanced by 0.65% at 8,182.01. Welspun Guj, Jindal Saw, Sesa Goa, Tata Steel and SAIL witnessed buying interest.
The BSE Health Care Index was up by 0.7% at 3,382.80. Matrix Lab, Biocon, Glenmark, Apollo Hospital and Nicholas Pirama closed higher.
The BSE FMCG Index was down 0.34% at 1,918.48. Nestle, Colgate, HLL and Tata Tea closed in red.
The BSE Bankex was down 1.08% at 5,048.42. ICICI Bank, Union Bank, PNB, Bank of India and Vijaya Bank closed lower.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 6584.47 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 23583.95 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3391.87 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 33560.29 crore.
