Sensex gains 175 points to 10,684

The markets closed in the positive terrain, as it saw heavy buying interest during the final hour of trade.

The markets picked up momentum during the later part of the day. After the initial hiccups, the Sensex moved north to close near 10,700 level and the Nifty closed above the 3,100 mark.

The Sensex closed at 10,684.30 up 174.77 points and the Nifty closed at 3142 up 66 points.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,235.03, down 4 points.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,341.44, up 13.39 points.

About 1013 shares have advanced, 1286 shares declined, and 70 shares are unchanged.

The major gainers on the indices were Bharti Airtel, Wipro, ONGC and HCL Tech.

Other than the bankex, all the other BSE sectoral indices closed in the positive terrain. IT sector was the star performer of the day.

The BSE IT Index was up by 3.2% at 3,821.52. I-Flex Solution, HCL Tech, Wipro, TCS and Mphasis BFL moved up.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index rose 1.67% at 5,261.62. Kochi Refineries, BPCL, ONGC, GAIL, and Petronet LNG advanced higher.

The BSE Auto Index added 1.8% at 4,728.60. Tube Investment , Apollo Tyres, Escorts, M&M, Maruti Udyog and Bharat Forge closed in positive terrain.

The BSE Metal Index advanced by 1.2% at 8,395.41. Hind Zinc, Sterlite Ind, Nalco, Hindalco and Jindal Saw witnessed buying interest.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.03% at 6,932.72. Siemens,BHEL, Bharat Electronics, ABB and Crompton Greave closed higher.

The BSE Health Care Index was up by 0.45% at 3,111.66. GlaxoSmithKline, Ipca Labs, Nicholas Pirama, Cipla and Lupin were among the major gainers.

The BSE FMCG Index was up 0.4% at 1,948.51. McDowell, Dabur India, HLL. Nirma and Colgate closed in green.

The BSE Consumer Durables Index gained 0.19% at 2,781.43.

The BSE Bankex was down 0.3% at 4,354.59.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 4754.19 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 21615.25 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2236.39 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 28605.83 crore.

Sensex @ 1416 hrs

After showing continue to witness volatile trade on alternate bouts of buying and selling. At 2:16 pm, the Sensex was trading at 10,588 up 78 points and the Nifty was trading at 3113 up 37 points.

About 759 shares have advanced, 1439 shares declined, and 75 shares are unchanged.  IT stocks continue to witness buying interest however banking, FMCG and consumer durable stocks are among the laggards.

The major gainers on the indices were Bharti Airtel up 2.40%, HDFC up 2.17%, TCS up 2.11%, HCL Tech up 4.81% and Siemens up 2.54%.

The major losers on the indices were ICICI Bank down 2.3%, Tata Steel down 1.77%, HDFC Bank down 1.75%, Suzlon Energy down 3.21% and SAIL down 2.04%.

Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 234.60 down 1.41%, Reliance was trading at Rs 1,029.00 down 0.28%, Infosys was trading at Rs 3,158.90 up 1.77%and ITC was trading at Rs 173.15 down 1.23%.

Sensex @ 1315 hrs

The markets are still holding on to their gains as buying is seen in select index pivotals.

At 1:15 pm the Sensex was trading at 10,598 up 88 points and the Nifty was trading at 3116 up 40 points.

About 820 shares have advanced, 1296 shares declined, and 82 shares are unchanged.

The major gainers on the indices were TCS was up 2.97%, HDFC gained 2.82%, Satyam rose 2.70%, Bharti Airtel jumped 2.58%, GAIL up 2.9% and HCL Tech was up 4.2%.

However, the major losers were ICICI Bank, HLL , HDFC Bank, Suzlon Energy, Sail and ITC.

Heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 234.50 down 1.45%, Reliance was trading at Rs 1,043.75 up 1.15%, Infosys was trading at Rs 3,172.00 up 2.19% and ITC was trading at Rs 173.70 down 0.91% from its previous close of Rs 175.30.

Sensex @ 1203 hrs

The markets are moving northwards on the back of selective buying interest. At 12.03 pm, the Sensex was up 102.80 points or 0.98% at 10612.33, and the Nifty was up 44.85 points or 1.46% at 3120.7.

TCS, Bharti Airtel, Wipro, Hero Honda and Dabur India were top gainers on the indices.  Bharti Airtel was quoting at Rs 382.30 up Rs 16.45, or 4.50% on the NSE.  Dabur India was quoting at Rs 142.50 up Rs 5.35, or 3.90% on the NSE.

Stocks like Reliance was at Rs 1,044.50 (7,47,944 shares), Tata Steel at Rs 523.75 (11,90,123 shares) and Rel Capital at Rs 475.50 (7,19,087) were most active on the BSE.

The BSE IT index has outperformed the other indices. It was up by 2.22% at 3784.19 amid buying seen in I-Flex Solution, TCS, Wipro, HCL Tech and Satyam.

Buying also seen in auto, pharma, metal and oil & gas stocks.  However, bank, capital goods, consumer durable and FMCG stocks were witnessing selling pressure.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap were also down by 0.28% at 4315.79 and -0.59% at 5,208.49 respectively.

ICICI Bank, HLL, ITC, HDFC Bank, Suzlon Energy and SAIL were top loser on the indices.

F&O update:

Volumes low; nearly Rs 7,500 cr traded.

Top traded: RIL, Tata Steel, Sterlite, Rel Cap, India Cement, Satyam.

Nifty futures discount narrows to 20 points.

NIfty futures add 13 lakh shares in Open Int.

Tata Steel adds 5 lakh shares in Open Int.

ITC adds 7 lakh shares in Open Int.

India Cement adds 6 lakh shares in Open Int.

Sensex @ 1102 hrs

The markets are trading flat without any momentum. At 11:02 am, the Sensex was trading at 10,506.08 down 3 points and the Nifty was trading at 3084 up 8 points.

About 582 shares have advanced, 1082 shares declined, and 54 shares are unchanged.
Banking and FMCG stocks are among the major laggards. However select IT and oil ang gas stocks are witnessing buying at the bourses.

The major losers on the indices were ICICI Bank, HLL, Bajaj Auto, HDFC Bank, Suzlon Energy, SAIL, Jet Airways and HPCL.
The major gainers on the indices were Bharti Airtel, Wipro, TCS, ONGC and HCL Tech.
Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 233.25 down 1.98%, Reliance was trading at Rs 1,037.55 up 0.55%, Infosys was trading at Rs 3,133.30 up 0.95% and ITC was trading at Rs 172.30 down 1.71%.

Sensex @1006 hrs:

The markets opened weak on the back of negative global cues. Although it showed some recovery but is hovering around its previous close. At 10:06 am the Sensex was trading at flat at 10511 up 2 points and the Nifty was at 3080 up 4 points.

The US closed weak. Among the Asian peers Nikkei is down 1.2%, Straits Times down 0.5% and Taiwan is down 0.5% and Hang Seng down just about a bit.
