Sensex closes at historic high of 10,082

The Sensex scaled to a new peak of 10,100 before settling with a smart gain of 1% (102 points) at 10,082.

The Nifty surged by 20 points to hit an all-time closing high of 3,020.

Tata Motors rallied 3.7% to Rs 762. Maruti gained 2.6% at Rs 755.

HDFC Bank advanced 3.7% to Rs 772, and ICICI Bank added 3.4% to Rs 628. SBI closed with a gain of 1.3% at Rs 876.

The Sensex journey: 1,000 to 10,000!


ITC moved up 2.5% to Rs 161. HLL notched up a gain of 1.7% at Rs 198.

Cipla spurted over 3% to Rs 512. While Dr.Reddy's was up 2.3% at Rs 1,218, Ranbaxy slipped 1.8% to Rs 407.

Infosys and Wipro advanced 1% each to Rs 2,871 and Rs 520, respectively.

NTPC, Larsen & Toubro and ACC also finished with smart gains today.

ONGC shed 1.6% to Rs 1,171. Reliance Energy and HDFC declined 1% each to RS 595 and Rs 1,325, respectively.
