Sensex down 76 points at 8,611

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 12 points at 8,699, and touched a high of 8,713 in early morning deals.

After dropping to a low of 8,587 (an intra-day swing of 126 points), the Sensex finally closed with a loss of 76 points (0.87%) at 8,611.

The Nifty lost 18 points to close at 2,603.

Reliance Energy declined nearly 4% (Rs 22) to Rs 552.

ITC slipped over 3% (Rs 4) to Rs 127. HLL was down Rs 2 at Rs 170.

While ICICI Bank declined 2.8% (Rs 15) to Rs 523, HDFC Bank dropped 2.7% (Rs  19) to Rs 680. SBI was down 2% (Rs 18) at Rs 892.

Infosys slipped 1.4% (Rs 37) to Rs 2,677. Satyam, Wipro and TCS also declined today.

Bajaj Auto advanced 2.8% (Rs 57) to Rs 2,057. Hero Honda also gained 2.8% (Rs 22) to Rs 839.

Grasim moved up nearly 3% (Rs 38) to Rs 1,321. HDFC was up Rs 27 at Rs 1,069. Reliance added Rs 3 to Rs 829. NTPC, Cipla, Dr. Reddy's, BHEL and ONGC also finished with gains today.
