The markets opened in positive territory on Wednesday.
The Sensex moved towards 8,350-point mark in early morning trade, after opening with a gain of 14 points at 8,332.
However, due to profit booking the index slipped into negative territory soon after the trading session commenced.
The Nifty also touched the 2,500-point market after opening 0.45 points up at 2,493.
After a volatile session, the Sensex finally closed with a loss of 9 points at 8,309.
The Nifty was down four points at 2,489.
