Sustained buying in tech, cement and auto scrips saw the Sensex close with a gain of 118 points at 6,221.
The Nfity closed at 1,955, up 41 points.
Infosys, which had declined over 3% on Tuesday, zoomed over 3% (Rs 62) to Rs 1,965. While Satyam was up 4% (Rs 14) at Rs 370, Wipro advanced 2% (Rs 13) to Rs 669.
Auto, cement, bank and pharma scrips also logged gains.
Maruti advanced nearly 6% (Rs 24) to Rs 437. Bajaj moved up 3% (Rs 35) to Rs 1,115. While Tata Motors was also up 3% (Rs 14) at Rs 488, Hero Honda gained 2% (Rs 10) to close at Rs 558.
ACC jumped 6% (Rs 22) to Rs 355. While Gujarat Ambuja also gained over 6% (Rs 24) to Rs 425, Grasim was up nearly 4% (Rs 46) at Rs 1,292.
SBI moved up over 3% (Rs 20) to Rs 593. HDFC Bank gained over 4% (Rs 20) to Rs 500. ICICI Bank was up 2.6% (Rs 9) at Rs 354.
Cipla moved up 5% (Rs 12) to Rs 264. Dr. Reddy's was up 2% (Rs 16) at Rs 749.
Bharti gained over 6% (Rs 12) to Rs 208. Tata Power gained nearly 6% (Rs 19) to Rs 358.
Tisco added 3.7% (Rs 13) to Rs 357, and Hindalco was up more than a per cent (Rs 18) at Rs 1,260.
ITC dropped over 2% (Rs 27) to Rs 1,242. L&T and HPCL also declined today.
