Sensex closes 123 points up at 6,158

All-round buying support lifted the Sensex above the 6,150-mark to finally close at 6,158 - up 123 points. The Nifty advanced 39 points to 1,940.

Infosys notched up 2.94% gains (Rs 60) to close at Rs 2,091. While Wipro flared up 3.46% (Rs 25) to Rs 762, Satyam was up nearly 2% (Rs 8) at Rs 432.

Reliance, which had a weak opening session, bounced back in the afternoon trades to close at Rs 510 - up Rs 6 or 1.24%. HLL jumped 3.42% (Rs 5) to Rs 141. ITC added 1.15% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,290.

ICICI Bank had a decent outing and advanced 5.19% (Rs 17) to Rs 336. While SBI moved up 2.44% (Rs 12) to Rs 525, HDFC Bank, however, ended marginally lower at Rs 496 - down Rs 3.

While HPCL, after a mixed outing, gained 3.22% (Rs 11) to Rs 346, ONGC was up 1.18% (Rs 9) at Rs 805. Reliance Energy gained 1.13% (Rs 6) to Rs 555.

While auto stocks attracted considerable buying support, cement and pharma counters also ended at higher levels.
