Sensex gains 60 points at close

The Sensex ended a per cent (60 points) higher at 5,774. The Nifty gained 22 points at 1,817.

Reliance advanced over 2% (Rs 12) to Rs 558. While HLL gained a per cent at Rs 128, ITC slipped Rs 3 to Rs 1,120.

Late buying in technology stocks saw the scrips extend gains towards the close. Infosys rallied over a per cent (Rs 19) to Rs 1,705, and Wipro surged 1.7% (Rs 10) to Rs 632. Satyam was up Rs 3 at Rs 394.

ONGC soared 2% (Rs 16) to Rs 805. HPCL, however, ended Rs 2 lower at Rs 324.

Tisco spurted 3.5% (Rs 10) to Rs 300, towards the closing bell. Hindalco gained a per cent (Rs 14) at Rs 1,374.

SBI advanced 1.3% (Rs 6) to Rs 487. ICICI Bank declined Rs 2 to Rs 294, and HDFC Bank closed unchanged at Rs 411.

Hero Honda rallied 1.5% (Rs 7) to Rs 437. While Tata Motors and Bajaj Auto posted smart gains at Rs 431 and Rs 1,028, respectively, Maruti moved a rupee to Rs 369.

Gujarat Ambuja spurted 1.7% (Rs 6) to Rs 361. ACC and Grasim also inched higher to Rs 276 and Rs 1,150, respectively.

Dr.Reddy's and Ranbaxy surged 1.5% each to Rs 756 and Rs 1,092, respectively. Cipla added Rs 2 to close at Rs 290.

Tata Power zoomed 4.8% (Rs 15) to Rs 331. However, Reliance Energy ended Rs 6 lower at Rs 664.

Bharti Tele rallied 4% (Rs 6) to Rs 155. Zee erased most of its gains towards the close, and finished a rupee higher at Rs 157.
