The Sensex closed eight points lower at 5,759. The Nifty finished at 1,812 - up six points.
Reliance declined 1.2% (Rs 7) to Rs 540. ITC traded in positive zone for most part of the trading day, however, late selling at the counter saw the scrip finish Rs 2 lower at Rs 1,144. HLL shed 1.6% (Rs 2) to Rs 125.
While Wipro surged 1.5% (Rs 9) to Rs 637, Infosys declined Rs 9 to Rs 1,717, and Satyam lost Rs 4 at Rs 398. HPCL spurted 1.6% (Rs 5) to Rs 332. ONGC ended unchanged at Rs 800.
ICICI Bank advanced 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 297, and SBI gained 1.5% (Rs 7) at Rs 490. HDFC Bank, however, declined Rs 3 to Rs 413. Bhel surged 2.7% (Rs 16) to Rs 605. Larsen & Toubro slumped 1.7% (Rs 15) to Rs 860.
HDFC declined a per cent (Rs 6) to Rs 643. Hindalco dropped 1.3% (Rs 17) to Rs 1,369, and Tisco was down Rs 2 at Rs 294.
Auto stocks exhibited a mixed trend today. Tata Motors zoomed 3.6% (Rs 15) to Rs 437, and Maruti was up Rs 3 at Rs 378. However, Hero Honda skidded over 2% (Rs 10) to Rs 444, and Bajaj Auto slipped Rs 4 to Rs 1,026.
Gujarat Ambuja gained Rs 2 at Rs 361. Grasim shed Rs 3 at Rs 1,172, and ACC lost a rupee at Rs 275. Pharma stocks witnessed heavy selling towards the close. Dr.Reddy's and Ranbaxy declined a per cent each to Rs 1,092 and Rs 761, respectively. Cipla shed nearly 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 294.
While Reliance Energy gained 1.5% (Rs 10) at Rs 681, Tata Power lost 1.5% (Rs 5) at Rs 320. Bharti Tele spurted 3% (Rs 4) to Rs 149 towards the closing bell, and Zee rallied almost 2% (Rs 3) to Rs 159.
Sensex @ 1500 hrs
The Sensex has rebounded into positive zone and is up eight points at 5,774. The Nifty is at 1,812 - up six points.
Wipro has gained a per cent (Rs 7) at Rs 635. Infosys is trading flat at Rs 1,727, and Satyam is down a rupee at Rs 401.
ICICI Bank has advanced over 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 298. While SBI has rebounded into positive zone and is up a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 487, HDFC Bank is up a rupee at Rs 416.
Hindalco has moved down Rs 11 to Rs 1,375, and Tisco is down a rupee at Rs 295.
Tata Motors has zoomed 3.3% (Rs 14) to Rs 436. Bajaj Auto and Maruti are up a rupee each at Rs 1,031 and Rs 376, respectiely. However, Hero Honda continues to languish in negative zone at Rs 446.
SAIL tops the volume chart on the BSE, and the counter has clocked a volume of around 54.14 lakh shares follwed by Tisco (31.27 lakh), Welspun Gujarat (23.83 lakh), Ispat Industries (16.24 lakh) and Tata Motors (15.88 lakh).
Tisco tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 92.99 crore on the BSE. It is followed by Reliance (Rs 75.52 crore), Tata Motors (Rs 68.52 crore), TCS (Rs 61.32 crore) and Maruti (Rs 56.22 crore).
Sensex @1403 hrs:
The Sensex has recovered all its losses and is now unchanged at 5,766. The Nifty is at 1,808 - up two points.
ITC is steady at Rs 1,156. Reliance and HLL are down a per cent each at Rs 541 and Rs 125, respectively.
While Infosys is down a rupee at Rs 1,726, Satyam has erased all its losses and is now trading flat at Rs 402. Wipro is up Rs 5 at Rs 633.
Tata Motors has rallied over 3% (Rs 13) to Rs 435. Bajaj Auto is up Rs 2 at Rs 1,032, and Maruti is trading flat at Rs 375. However, Hero Honda is down 1.7% (Rs 8) at Rs 446.
Bhel has surged 3% (Rs 17) to Rs 606. Larsen & Toubro is down Rs 6 at Rs 869.
Cipla has shed a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 297. Dr.Reddy's and Ranbaxy are also down at Rs 764 and Rs 1,096, respectively.
The BSE PSU index is up 0.8% at 3,713, and the BSE Auto, BANKEX and FMCG indices are holding marginal gains at 2,421, 2,786 and 930, respectively. However, the BSE TECk, Metal and Health Care indices have slipped into negative zone to 1,473, 5,179 and 2,616, respectively.
Welspun Gujarat, Bongaigaon Refinery, Kochi Refinery, Ramco System, Chennai Petro, Maharashtra Seamless, IOC, Tata Elxsi, Century Textiles, Hinduja TMT, Ballarpur Industries, Shipping Corporation, Aurobindo Pharma, Corporation Bank and Union Bank rallied 2-4% each.
CESC has shed 3.5% (Rs 4.50) at Rs 122. Novartis, Ispat Industries, Vijaya Bank, Alfa Laval, Aventis Pharma, GMDC, Jindal Iron & Steel, Sterling Biotech, Indian Hotels, Bharat Forge, Moser Baer, Jindal Steel, ING Vysya Bank, Syngenta, SKF India, Exide and United Phosphorous are down 1-3% each.
SAIL tops the volume chart on the BSE, and the counter has clocked a volume of around 31.80 lakh shares so far. Welspun Gujarat (21.04 lakh), Tisco (17.88 lakh), Ispat Industries (12.07 lakh) and Maruti Udyog (9.29 lakh) have also logged good volume.
Tisco tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 53.47 crore so far on the BSE. It is followed by Reliance (Rs 41.54 crore), Tata Motors (39.76 crore), TCS (Rs 37.16 crore) and Maruti (Rs 35.70 crore).
Sensex @1309 hrs:
Fresh selling in the markets dragged the Sensex to an low of 5,742. The index is now down 22 points at 5,744. The Nifty has shed six points at 1,800.
HLL has shed 1.6% (Rs 2) to Rs 125, and Reliance has declined 1.4% (Rs 7) to Rs 539. However, ITC is still firm at Rs 1,157 - up Rs 11.
Infosys is steady at Rs 1,720. While Wipro has erased some gains at Rs 632, Satyam has slipped 1.3% (Rs 5) to Rs 396.
HPCL is up Rs 4 at Rs 331, and ONGC has slipped into red and is down Rs 2 at Rs 798.
Bhel has rallied 2.6% (Rs 15) to Rs 604.
Grasim has declined Rs 10 to Rs 1,165. ACC and Gujarat Ambuja are down a rupee each at Rs 275 and Rs 360, respectively.
Zee is up a per cent at Rs 158.

The markets are moving in narrow range, while the Sensex is unchanged at 5,766. The Nifty is up a point at 1,807.
ITC has is ruling firm at Rs 1,159. Reliance and HLL are steady at Rs 540 and Rs 126, respectively.
Infosys is down Rs 6 to Rs 1,721, and Satyam has declined Rs 4 to Rs 398. Wipro, however, is still holding gains at Rs 635.
HPCL has moved up 1.8% (Rs 6) to Rs 333. ONGC is stagnant at Rs 803.
Hindalco has shed Rs 11 to Rs 1,376.
While Hero Honda is down 2% (Rs 9) at Rs 445, Tata Motors has zoomed 2.4% (Rs 10) to Rs 432. Maruti is up Rs 2 at Rs 377.

The Sensex opened six points lower at 5,760. It soon jumped into positive zone to touch an intra-day high of 5,787. But at 1204 hrs the Sensex is down 9 points at 5757. Nifty is flat at 1806.

The index has now rebounded into positive zone and is up 13 points at 5,779. The Nifty is at 1,813 - up seven points.
ITC has surged 1.3% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,161. While Reliance is down a per cent (Rs 6) at Rs 540, HLL is unchanged at Rs 127.
Infosys is down Rs 3 at Rs 1,724, and Satyam has dropped a rupee at Rs 400. However, Wipro is up 1.7% (Rs 11) at Rs 639.
HPCL has spurted 1.4% (Rs 5) to Rs 332, and ONGC has gained Rs 2 at Rs 802.
ICICI Bank has advanced a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 294. HDFC Bank and SBI have declined a rupee each to Rs 415 and Rs 481, respectively.
