Sensex soars 91pts; Maruti zooms 5%

The Sensex ended with a huge gain of 1.6% or 91 points at 5,766, and the Nifty closed 36 points higher at 1,806.

Maruti was the top gainer among the Sensex scrips. The scrip zoomed over 5% (Rs 19) to close at Rs 375.

Gujarat Ambuja, Reliance Energy and Wipro gained around 4% each at Rs 358, Rs 670 and Rs 628, respectively.

Bajaj Auto was the sole significant loser, and the stock finished Rs 7 lower at Rs 1,030.

Sensex @ 1515 hrs

The Sensex is up 100 points at 5,775, and the Nifty has gained 35 points at 1,810.

Bajaj Auto has slipped into negative zone and is down Rs 4 at Rs 1,033.

Sensex @1425 hrs:

The Sensex has soared to a new intra-day high of 5,780, and is up 105 points or 1.9% at the same levels. The Nifty has zoomed to 1,812 - up 2.1% or 37 points.

Software stocks are consolidating gains at higher levels. Infosys is up 1.4% (Rs 24) at Rs 1,726. Wipro is firm at Rs 628, and Satyam has zoomed ahead to Rs 397.

Reliance has moved up 2.7% (Rs 15) to Rs 548. ITC has gained over a per cent (Rs 14) at Rs 1,142, and HLL is a rupee at Rs 127.

ONGC has soared over 3% (Rs 24) to Rs 802, and HPCL has surged over 2% (Rs 7) to Rs 328.

HDFC has advanced nearly 3% (Rs 18) to Rs 646.

Tisco has spurted over 2% (Rs 7) to Rs 299. Hindalco is steady at Rs 1,390.

Maruti is firm at Rs 375 - up 5.2% (Rs 19). Tata Motors has gained 2% (Rs 9) at Rs 427. Bajaj Auto and Hero Honda have erased most of their gains and are now trading marginally higher at Rs 1,042 and Rs 455, respectively.

Gujarat Ambuja have rallied 3.3% to Rs 1,042. ACC and Grasim are steady at Rs 1,185 and Rs 279, respectively.

Dr.Reddy's is firm at Rs 769. While Ranbaxy has surged 1.7% (Rs 19) to Rs 1,117, Cipla is steady at Rs 300.

Reliance Energy has rallied 4.5% (Rs 29) to Rs 672. Tata Power is up 2.2% (Rs 7) at Rs 326.

The BSE TECk and Metal indices have surged nearly 2% each to 1,478 and 5,223, respectively. While the BSE Auto and PSU indices have gained 1.6% each at 2,434 and 3,692, respectively, the BSE FMCG and Health Care indices are up a per cent each at 928 and 2,639, respectively.

Hindustan Zinc has zoomed over 8% (Rs 9) to Rs 123. Crompton Greaves, Shipping Corporation, Hinduja TMT, CESC, Chennai Petro, Neyveli Lignite, Sterlite Industries, MphasiS BFL, Birla Corporation, Arvind Mills and Finolex Cables have rallied 4-6% each.

MTNL has tumbled over 2% (Rs 3) to Rs 139. Cummins, Merck, Aventis Pharma, Tamilnadu Newsprint and BPCL are down a per cent each.

Sensex @1332 hrs:

The Sensex is ruling firm around the day's higher levels at 5,770 - up 1.7% or 95 points. The Nifty is up 33 points at 1,808.

There is not a single loser in the Sensex 30 stocks. Maruti is the major gainer among the Sensex stocks. The scrip is has zoomed over 5% (Rs 18) to Rs 375. Wipro has surged 4% (Rs 24) to Rs 629.

ONGC, Reliance Energy, Gujarat Ambuja, Reliance, Bharti Tele, Satyam, HDFC, Tata Power, Tisco, Zee and Grasim have rallied 2-3% each.

Tata Motors, Dr.Reddy's, Infosys, Bhel, SBI, ACC, Bajaj Auto and ITC have gained around a per cent each.

Sensex @1253 hrs:

The Sensex has gained 100 points to touch an intra-day high of 5,776, and is now up 98 points at 5,773. The Nifty is at 1,811 - up 36 points.

In the broader market, 179 stocks advanced in A-Group, as against 18 declines. While overall there are 1309 advancing stocks, compared to 688 declining stocks.

While Wipro has soared 4% (Rs 25) to Rs 629, Satyam has spurted 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 396. Infosys is steady at Rs 1,724.

Reliance has surged nearly 3% (Rs 15) at Rs 548. ITC is up 1.3% (Rs 16) at Rs 1,144, and HLL is up a rupee at Rs 127.

ONGC has extended gains and is now up 3.3% (Rs 26) at Rs 804. HPCL has rallied 2.5% (Rs 8) to Rs 330.

SBI is up a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 484. ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank are up Rs 2 each at Rs 292 and Rs 413, respectively.

HDFC is firm at Rs 640 - up 2% (Rs 12).

Bhel has moved up 1.7% (Rs 10) to Rs 594. Larsen & Toubro has erased most of its gains and is now up Rs 2 at Rs 878.

Tisco has spurted 2.3% (Rs 7) to Rs 299, and Hindalco has moved up Rs 8 at Rs 1,391.

Maruti has zoomed 5% (Rs 18) at Rs 374. Bajaj Auto and Tata Motors are up 1.6% each at Rs 1,054 and Rs 425, respectively. Hero Honda has gained Rs 2 at Rs 456.

Gujarat Ambuja has rallied 3% (Rs 10) to Rs 355, and Grasim has surged 2.4% (Rs 28) to Rs 1,190. ACC is up 1.5% (Rs 4) at Rs 279.

Dr.Reddy's has moved up 1.8% (Rs 13) to Rs 772. While Cipla is up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 301, Ranbaxy has gained Rs 7 at Rs 1,106.

Reliance Energy has surged 3% (Rs 19) to Rs 662, and Tata Power is up 2.2% (Rs 7) at Rs 326.

Zee and Bharti Tele has zoomed over 2% each to Rs 157 and Rs 146, respectively.

SAIL has topped the volume chart on the BSE, and the counter has clocked a volume of around 42 lakh shares so far. Ispat Industries (23.82 lakh), Maruti (18.62 lakh), Tisco (14.15 lakh) and Hinduja TMT (12.36 lakh) have also logged good volume.

Maruti tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 71.51 crore so far on the BSE. It is followed by Reliance (Rs 49.96 crore), Tisco (Rs 42.58 crore), Hinduja TMT (Rs 32.67 crore) and Infosys (Rs 32.34 crore).

Sensex @1145 hrs:

The Sensex touched an intra-day high of 5,763, and is now up 75 points at 5,750. The Nifty is at 1,805.

Infosys has pared gains and is now up 1.3% (Rs 23) at Rs 1,725. Wipro has moved up 3% (Rs 18) to Rs 623, and Satyam is steady at Rs 393.

Reliance has surged 2% (Rs 10) to Rs 543. ITC is up 1.3% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,143, and HLL is trading flat at Rs 127.

ONGC has soared 3% (Rs 24) to Rs 801. HPCL is up 1.8% (Rs 6) at Rs 328.

SBI and HDFC Bank are up Rs 2 each at Rs 481 and Rs 412, respectively. ICICI Bank is up a rupee at Rs 290.

HDFC has advanced over 2% (Rs 14) to Rs 642.

Bhel has spurted over a per cent (Rs 8) to Rs 592, and Larsen & Toubro is up Rs 8 at Rs 884.

Tisco is firm at Rs 297, and Hindalco has pared gains and is up Rs 6 at Rs 1,388.

Maruti is firm with a gain of more than 4% (Rs 15) at Rs 371. Bajaj Auto and Tata Motors are also ruling in positive zone at Rs 1,049 and Rs 425, respectively. Hero Honda is up a rupee at Rs 455.

Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja have surged nearly 3% each to Rs 1,192 and Rs 355, respectively. ACC is up 1.5% (Rs 4) at Rs 279.

Dr.Reddy's is up 1.5% (Rs 11) at Rs 769. Cipla and Ranbaxy are up a rupee each at Rs 299 and Rs 1,098, respectively.

Tata Power and Reliance Energy have extended gains and are up nearly 2% each at Rs 325 and Rs 654, respectively.

The BSE PSU and Metal indices are up 1.6% each at 3,690 and 5,205, respectively. While the BSE Auto and TECk index have gained 1.3% each at 2,429 and 1,471, respectively, the BSE FMCG and Health Care indices are heading north at 927 and 2,622, respectively.

Hinduja TMT, Sterlite Industries, Shipping Corporation, Birla Corporation, CESC, Neyveli Lignite, Alok Industries, Thermax, Crompton Greaves, Pidilite, Arvind Mills, United Phosphorous, Container Corporation, Indian Rayon, Punjab Tractors, Finolex Cables, IDBI Bank and National Aluminium are up 3-5% each.

GMDC, Tamilnadu Newsprint, Merck, Cummins and Asain Paints are down a per cent each.

Sensex @1045 hrs:

Bulls are in total command at Dalal Street as all round buying has sent the Sensex soaring to an intra-day high of 5,760. The index is now up 1.5% or 85 points at the same higher levels. The Nifty has crossed the 1,800-mark, and is up 30 points at 1,805.

Infosys is up 1.6% (Rs 28) at Rs 1,730, and Satyam has gained Rs 6 at Rs 394. Wipro has advanced 2.4% (Rs 15) to Rs 619.

Reliance has surged 1.3% (Rs 7) to Rs 540. ITC has rallied a per cent (Rs 12) to Rs 1,140. HLL is marginally up at Rs 127.

ONGC has soared over 2% (Rs 16) to Rs 794. HPCL has spurted 1.3% (Rs 4) to Rs 326.

SBI has advanced over a per cent (Rs 6) to Rs 485. ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank have also posted gains at Rs 291 and Rs 414, respectively.

HDFC has mopped up gains worth 2% (Rs 12) at Rs 604.

Bhel is up a per cent (Rs 7) at Rs 591.

Hindalco and Tisco have moved up over a per cent each to Rs 1,396 and Rs 296, respectively.

Maruti has zoomed over 4% (Rs 16) to Rs 372. Bajaj Auto and Tata Motors have rallied 1.5% each to Rs 1,053 and Rs 424, respectively. Hero Honda has moved up Rs 4 to Rs 458.

Grasim, Gujarat Ambuja and Larsen & Toubro have surged nearly 2% each to Rs 1,183, Rs 351 and Rs 891, respectively. ACC has gained over a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 278.

Dr.Reddy's has soared nearly 2% (Rs 16) to Rs 774. Cipla and Ranbaxy have also added gains at Rs 299 and Rs 1,104, respectively.

Tata Power has rallied 1.6% (Rs 5) to Rs 324, and Reliance Energy is up Rs 4 at Rs 648.

Bharti Tele has zoomed over 2% (Rs 3) to Rs 146. Zee is down a per cent at Rs 153.

The BSE PSU and Metal indices surged 1.8% to 3,698 and 5,216, respectively. While the BSE Auto and TECk index have gained 1.5% each to 2,433 and 1,473, respectively, the BSE FMCG and Health Care indices are up a per cent each at 928 and 2,633, respectively.

Sensex @1005 hrs:

The Sensex opened with positive gap of 30 points at 5,706. Fresh buying in the markets saw the Sensex spurt to a high of 5,741. The index is now up 66 points at the same levels. The Nifty has rallied 24 points to 1,799.

Infosys has zoomed 2% (Rs 33) to Rs 1,735. Satyam has gained 1.5% at Rs 394, and Wipro has surged 2.5% (Rs 15) to Rs 620 in the early morning deals.

Reliance is up Rs 4 at Rs 537. While ITC has gained Rs 10 at Rs 1,138, HLL is trading flat at Rs 127.
