The Sensex closed 16 points lower at 5,512. The Nifty declined five points to close at 1,718.
ITC dropped over a per cent (Rs 14) to Rs 1,138. Reliance shed Rs 3 at Rs 495, and HLL ended a tad lower at Rs 120.
Late buying at the Infosys counter saw the scrip rally 1.6% (Rs 25) to Rs 1,639. Wipro declined a per cent (Rs 5) to Rs 577, and Satyam ended a rupee lower at Rs 371.
ICICI Bank advanced a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 295. While SBI declined a per cent (Rs 5) to Rs 474, HDFC Bank was down 1.6% (Rs 6) to Rs 398.
Ranbaxy dropped 2.6% (Rs 29) to Rs 1,086. Cipla slipped 1.4% (Rs 4) to Rs 282, and Dr.Reddy's was down Rs 2 at Rs 750.
Hindalco surged nearly 3% (Rs 36) to Rs 1,296.
HDFC declined over a per cent (Rs 8) to Rs 607.
L&T after being in positive zone for most part of the trading day on its re-entry in Sensex 30 stocks ended a rupee lower at Rs 875. ACC declined Rs 3 to Rs 267 and Gujarat Ambuja lost Rs 2 at Rs 334. Grasim, however, ended Rs 6 higher at Rs 1,126.
Tata Power tripped 1.5% (Rs 5) to Rs 310.
Zee ended a per cent higher at Rs 151. Bharti Tele tumbled 3% (Rs 4.50) to Rs 145.
