The Sensex after swinging in and out of the positive zone finally ended flat at 5,298. The Nifty, however, was down seven points at 1,649.
ITC closed 3.6% (Rs 37) higher at Rs 1,080, following the news that the Supreme Court reserved its judgement in an appeal filed by the company whereby the ITC will be benefited by Rs 803cr. HLL surged over 2% (Rs 3) to Rs 119, and Reliance gained Rs 3 at Rs 483.
Zee slumped over 5% (Rs 8) to Rs 151, after the High Court asked ESPN-Star and Zee to submit fresh bids.
Satyam declined Rs 3 to Rs 361. Infosys and Wipro were marginally down at Rs 1,622 and Rs 590, respectively.
ONGC slumped 1.5% (Rs 11) to Rs 694, and HPCL was down Rs 2 at Rs 311.
HDFC Bank dropped 3% (Rs 12) to Rs 382. While SBI shed Rs 3 to Rs 463, ICICI Bank advanced Rs 2 to Rs 267.
