The Sensex ended at 5,117 - down 18 points. The Nifty lost 2 points to end at 1609.
Reliance pared some losses to close at Rs 458 - down Rs 2.50. ITC was down 1.8% (Rs 19) at Rs 1,025. HLL ended a rupee lower at Rs 111.
Late buying at the Infosys counter saw the scrip finish with a gain of 1.2% (Rs 20) at Rs 1,564. While Wipro was down Rs 5 at Rs 568, Satyam finished a rupee lower at Rs 339.
ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank declined over 2% each to Rs 268 and Rs 370, respectively. SBI was down Rs 2 at Rs 434.
HPCL soared 2.4% (Rs 7) to Rs 315, and ONGC was up 1.4% (Rs 10) at Rs 713.
Rambaxy gained over a per cent (Rs 12) to Rs 948. While Cipla shed a per cent at Rs 240, Dr.Reddy's closed a tad higher at Rs 699.
Bhel witnessed profit-taking after a three-day rally. The scrip closed at Rs 559 - down 2% (Rs 12).
Hindalco declined 2.5% (Rs 30) to Rs 1,149, and Tisco was down a per cent (Rs 2.50) at Rs 243.
