The Sensex closed at 5,233, - up 36 points. The Nifty ended 10 points higher at 1,643.
Hindalco was the star today. The stock ended almost 5% higher at Rs 1,102. SBI and Bhel followed with gains of around 4% each at Rs 458 and Rs 580, respectively.
Auto, cement, telecom and power stocks ended with gains.
While technology stocks exhibited a mixed trend, PSU oil stocks ended lower today.
