The markets witnessed aggressive buying towards the closing bell. The Sensex closed up 84 points at 5253. The Nifty ended 1.8% higher at 1,655 - up 28 points.
Wipro was the star of the day. The scrip closed with a handsome gain of 6.3% at Rs 565.
Bhel was up 4.2% at Rs 551. Hero Honda (up 4.1%), HLL (up 3.3%) and Gujarat Ambuja (up 3.2%) also posted smart gains.
Dr.Reddy's Labs, ICICI Bank, SBI, Tisco, Satyam, Tata Motors, Reliance, ACC, Cipla, Hindalco, Tata Power, HPCL, Bajaj Auto, HDFC and ONGC were all up 1-3% each.
Zee (down 1%), Ranbaxy and Bharti Tele lost ground.
