After moving in a narrow range for major part of the day, the Sensex finally ended with a smart gain of 33 points at 5,202. The Nifty, too, finished higher at 1,639 - up 7 points.
Bajaj Auto (up 3.8%) and ICICI Bank (up 3.3%) were the major gainers at Rs 854 and Rs 276, respectively. HLL was up 2.5% at 119.
ONGC, Hero Honda, Tata Power, GACL, ACC, HPCL, Reliance Energy and Reliance Industries finished with gains of 1-2% each.
Hindalco dropped over 3% to Rs 1,065, and Wipro down over 1% at Rs 540.
