The Sensex closed with a gain of 13 points at 3,740.
Satyam was firm right through the session, and finished with a gain of near 6% (Rs 11) at Rs 204. Infosys shed gains on profit-taking, but still finished with a gain of Rs 16 at Rs 3,529.
Reliance opened on a firm note, but slipped in afternoon deals on profit-taking and lost Rs 4 to Rs 345. HLL was weak right through the session, and closed with a loss of Rs 2 at Rs 167. ITC was up Rs 7 at Rs 742.
MTNL moved up 5% (Rs 5) to Rs 113. SBI dropped in the last half-hour of trading, and closed with a loss of a rupee at Rs 425. HPCL was down Rs 7 at Rs 326.
Telco gained 3 (Rs 7) to Rs 229. Bajaj was up Rs 10 at Rs 575.
Cipla advanced close to 4% (Rs 31) to Rs 815. Glaxo closed on a firm note at Rs 383 - up 4% (RS 15). Dr. Reddy's and Ranbaxy also finished with gains.
Grasim added Rs 9 to Rs 499. ACC and L&T also moved up, but Gujarat Ambuja was down a rupee at Rs 212.
HDFC dropped nearly 3% (Rs 13) to Rs 407. Hindalco gained 2% (Rs 18) to Rs 817. Tisco was firm and moved up 3% (Rs 5) to Rs 203.
