O P Bhatt, managing director of State Bank of India, was on Friday appointed chairman of the bank, an official announcement said.
O P Bhatt replaces A K Purwar who retired as chairman of the country's largest commercial bank on May 31 this year.
T S Bhatacharya, another managing director in the bank was appointed as acting chairman after retirement of Purwar.
