Digital technology major, Samsung Electronics, strengthened its touch screen mobile phone portfolio by launching three new products Star, Star 3G and BeatDJ  in the Indian market recently.

With this, Samsung now has seven touch screen phones in its portfolio of over 50 handset models.

Young consumers are driving the trend for affordable multimedia phones, giving expression to their needs for music and
imaging. We feel that touch as a technology and interface will redefine the industry, Sunil Dutt, country head (mobile division), said.

The touch story is set to get stronger in 2009. Touch handset sales are projected to reach 114 million this year globally, as against 64 million in 2008, while in India it is estimated to touch 1.2 million, as compared with 800,000 units last year, he said.
