The Rajya Sabha was adjourned briefly on Wednesday as Samajwadi Party, Telugu Desam Party and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam members demanded Finance Minister P Chidambaram's resignation over certain references in a book on stock market in India.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Samajwadi Party members waved copies of a book Vedanta's Billions which, they alleged, contained references linking Chidambaram with Anil Agarwal, who has a majority stake in Sterlite Group, which has bought BALCO.

As SP members, joined by those from AIADMK and TDP, demanded Chidambaram's resignation, Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan said the members had given a notice against the minister to the chairman and the notice has to be sent to the minister.

This did not pacify the agitated members who kept raising slogans and rushed towards the well.

As the members were unrelenting, the Chair adjourned the House till 2 pm.
