Reliance Infocomm on Monday paid Rs 150 crore (Rs 1.50 billion) penalty for 'illegal' routing of international calls even as it questioned the rejection of its plea by telecom tribunal TDSAT saying it would take all measures to prove that it did not violate any norms.

"The payment has been made so that the issues in dispute can be viewed dispassionately... We have full faith in the judicial process and are confident of vindicating our stand," Reliance Infocomm, headed by Mukesh Ambani, said in a statement.

Claiming that there had been no impropriety by it, the company said: "The payment has been made without accepting the findings of TDSAT. We will explore all avenues to establish that the service provided has been in accordance with the licence conditions."

"There has been no impropriety on our part," the company said, but did not elaborate on whether it was moving the Supreme Court challenging the TDSAT decision to reject its plea.

After the TDSAT verdict, Reliance counsel Mukul Rohatgi had told reporters that "we will move the Supreme Court on Monday to challenge the ruling."

Reliance had moved TDSAT on January 19 challenging DoT's order of imposing the penalty on the ground that the private operator had violated licence conditions but did not get relief from the Tribunal.

TDSAT had said on Friday that Reliance Infocomm had put the security of the nation in jeopardy by indulging in such illegal activities.
