Reliance Infocomm Ltd is planning to initiate talks with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd on the ongoing Point of Interconnectivity issue, according to Reliance Industries chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani.
"We will start talks with both the companies on the PoI issue and we are confident of reaching an amicable solution," Ambani told PTI in Mumbai on Wednesday.
BSNL, MTNL and Reliance Infocomm are all mature companies and there is no reason why an issue cannot be sorted out through talks, he said, adding, the ongoing PoI issue was just a "corporate issue".
However, Ambani did not provide any time-frame for the talks.
Earlier, BSNL had alleged that Reliance was routing illegal international calls, while different units of the state-owned telephony major had slapped dues on Reliance totalling Rs 255 crore (Rs 2.55 billion). MTNL has also sought dues of over Rs 309 crore (Rs 3.09 billion) from Reliance.
A Division Bench of the Delhi high court had directed Reliance to deposit Rs 40 crore (Rs 400 million) with BSNL and asked the PSU to maintain status quo on the interconnect agreement. The matter is adjourned till November 30.
Reliance also approached the Delhi high court seeking to restrain MTNL from disconnecting its PoIs.
