Reliance Infocomm has, in a media release stated that "it has come to our notice that some people have started collecting payments against promised delivery of Reliance IndiaMobile," the company's limited mobility telephony service launched on December 28.

The company has cautioned all its subscribers and customers not to make any payments in cash or cheque to anyone except authorised 'point of sales agents' and 'Dhirubhai Ambani entrepreneurs.'

Reliance Infocomm said that it has received 'overwhelming' countrywide response and is in the process of appointing agents, who will accept bookings on behalf of Reliance Infocomm.

The media release adds, "All payments as per tariff plan have to be made only by account payee cheques or demand drafts, in favour of 'Reliance Industries Ltd. A/c RIS' to the authorised agents."
