The government on Tuesday asked the industry to make its stance clear on the issue of reservations in private sector.

"The industry is being portrayed as hostile to the idea of affirmative action and the industry shall have to come forward to show that it is positive towards corporate social responsibility," Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Meira Kumar said at a meeting with CII president Sunil Kant Munjal.

Kumar pointed out that centuries of marginalisation and oppression of scheduled caste and scheduled tribes had not diminished their capabilities and their intelligence and it can be proved given an equal opportunity.

Kumar and Munjal agreed upon taking concrete steps to ensure massive skill development, upgrade and training programme for SC/ST communities within CII's agenda of providing skills to one million youth in next three years.

Munjal told the minister that CII would ensure that candidates belonging to scheduled castes and tribes go through an unbiased selection process during the recruitment in industry.
