Qatar Airways to buy 80 aircraft

In one of the largest aircraft purchase deals, Qatar Airways on Tuesday decided to place orders worth $15.2 billion with Airbus and Boeing.

This was announced was made by Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways CEO, at the Paris Air Show. He said the Airbus order would be worth $10.6 billion and Boeing order would be worth $4.6 billion.

Qatar Airways will buy 60 units of Airbus 350-800 and A 350-900 variants. The aircraft will be delivered between 2010 and 2015. The Airbus will be used for short haul to long haul operations in the far-east, Europe and North America from its operational hub, Doha.

The company also plans to buy 20 Boeing B777. The Boeing order will be delivered between 2007 and 2010. Qatar Airways currently has a fleet of 40 aircraft flying to over 64 destinations.
