November 06, 2015 17:00 IST

Mercedes calls the luxury SUV as the "S-Class among SUVs". Some of these updates include a revamped LED headlight that now has daytime running LEDs which is something that was not there earlier.

Mercedes-Benz Reveals GL-Class Facelift, Dubbed as GLS Now dubbed as GLS, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the face-lifted version of GL which is in line with other cars of its portfolio including Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLE Class.

Details regarding the specs of the luxury SUV were released few days back but this is the first time that the company has revealed the vehicle in flesh.

US would be the first market where Mercedes-Benz GLS would be available for orders and sales.

Buyers can order the SUV next month whereas actual deliveries of the product would commence around March next year.

Even though official unveiling of the luxury SUV may happen next year at the Indian Auto Expo 2016, actual launch may be delayed till the second half of the year.

Mercedes-Benz GLS is not the only vehicle to arrive in the Indian market as the new GLS63 AMG is also expected to be available for sale very soon.

Currently, the German automaker already has GL63 on offer. Mercedes-Benz GLS is more like an updated version of the GL-Class which is somewhat the same thing that we came across with Mercedes-Benz GLE.

The company calls the luxury SUV as the "S-Class among SUVs". Some of these updates include a revamped LED headlight that now has daytime running LEDs which is something that was not there earlier.

The star logo at the front grille has become bigger in size whereas taillamps also garner new LED graphics.

Front and rear bumpers have been redesigned as well.

We also see a new set of alloy wheels that enhances the visual appeal of the car from the sides.

The pattern of slight tweaks in design can also be seen for the interiors with most of those changes happening for the central console system. What stands out though for the interior of the vehicle is the 8 inch COMAND Online infotainment system that adds value to the multimedia system of the car along with the addition of the new touch-pad.

Safety section of the car is as strong as we have seen in the past with Mercedes-Benz GLS offering features like Attention Assist, Collision Prevention Assist Plus and Crosswind Assist.

Other elements include electronic all-wheel drive traction system 4ETS, Pre-safe system, ESP, Brake Assist BAS and Cruise control.

There are plenty of airbags as well including knee airbag for the driver and front passenger.

There is also an airbag that works as a combination for throat and pelvis protection while the other standard ones include adaptive two-stage air bags for front passenger and driver and window airbags that are available above the three seat rows.

As far as engine is concerned, Mercedes-Benz GLS receives a global update but the same is not applicable for the Indian market.

For the Indian audience, there is only the GL350 on offer that remains unchanged with its 3 litre V6 diesel engine.

It is more than likely that Mercedes-Benz GLS would use the same engine in India with no updates generating 255bhp power at 3600rpm and 616Nm of maximum torque.

The displacement behind is mammoth at 2987cc that works in sync with its 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission system.
