The government on Tuesday has directed telecom service providers, including Reliance Infocomm and Tatas, to submit compliance report on fixed wireless services, ensuring that they confine to the user premises, by March 31.
The department of telecom has asked for compliance from all unified access service licensees, BSNL and MTNL regarding fixed wireless terminal phones by March 31, 2005, an official statement said.
Last week, the DoT had directed the telecom service providers to ensure strict confinement of fixed wireless services to the user premises.
The terminal used for fixed wireless services should be strictly confined to the premises of the subscriber where the telephone connection is registered.
It is licensee's responsibility to ensure that the subscriber terminal is operated in accordance with the terms of the licence for fixed lines, it had stated.
DoT has sought a compliance report in the wake of access deficit charge which is payable on fixed services and not on mobile services.
Some of the FWT service providers were offering the advantage of mobility while collecting the ADC charges on the basis that the service was a fixed service.
Thus, these services, which could be used throughout the service area, were creating a non-level playing field for cellular services and causing revenue loss to the government.
