After outsourcing of Permanent Account Number (PAN) cards through the United Trust of India Investor Services Ltd, the finance ministry on Thursday appointed National Securities Depository Ltd to provide PAN cards to new taxpayers in 139 cities from next week.
The Income-Tax Department is also planning to introduce a system for filing PAN applications through the Internet soon.
"In order to further enhance PAN services, the I-T Department has appointed NSDL in addition to UTI-ISL as a service provider," an official release said.
NSDL will offer the services from its TIN Facilitation Centres in 139 cities from June 7.
