Qatar has extended support to India's demand for long term crude oil supply contract from the Gulf countries, saying it will impart greater stability in the market.

"It is a good idea. We should discuss it. Long term contract will stabilise the volatile markets," Qatar Energy Minister Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah said.

Attiyah, who is in New Delhi to attend a conference of major oil producers and buyers, said "energy policies should give confidence to producers and consumers and we would be discussing stabilisation of market on Thursday.

"Currently, the markets are witnessing high fluctuation. They are still under a lot of pressure. We have to see how we can stabilise them," he said.

Qatar is looking at exporting additional LNG to India beyond 7.5 million tonnes, already committed to Petronet LNG.
