NREGP wages hiked to Rs 100 in Andhra

Daily wages under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme has been enhanced from Rs 80 to Rs 100 in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the announcement made by chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday, the new wages would be paid to workers under NREGP from May 21 onwards.

Reviewing the progress of NREGP works, the chief minister directed district collectors to take up and complete all works under the programme before the onset of monsoons so that funds available could be fully utilised.

The state has so far issued 124.36 lakh job cards under the scheme and 169.32 lakh individuals were provided employment.

The chief minister was informed that a Society for Social Audit, Accountability and Transparency was formed to conduct social audit into NREGP works. The Government of India has agreed to release Rs 5.5 crore (Rs 55 million) for conducting the social audit.

Finance minister K Rosaiah, chief secretary P Ramakanth Reddy, principal secretary (Rural Development) K Raju and other officials attended the meeting.
