Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has warned the officers of stern action if irregularities were detected in implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

"Stern action should be taken against officers committing irregularities in implementation of MNREGA," Mayawati directed after a review meeting of the principal secretaries, secretaries and divisional commissioners.

The Chief Minister recently said action was taken against several officers and if further irregularities were detected in the implementation officers concerned would not be spared.

"The officers should ensure that needy persons get jobs as per the demand of the scheme and useful assets are created in the villages," she said.

She directed that the selection of personnel for social audit and effective implementation of the scheme should be completed by April 30.
