Ford Figo Sports Edition’s bigger alloy wheels and retuned suspension elevate the pleasure of driving, says P Tharyan.
A sporty car and vast uninhabited tracts of land make a heady cocktail. Thus, when I drove to the salt flats of the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat in the new Sports Edition of the Ford Figo, I was in seventh heaven.
I stepped on the gas pedal, braked to my heart’s content, got high on the sound of the powerful diesel engine and the screeching tyres. While the outside temperature was 43 degrees Celsius, the ambient temperature inside was 21 degrees, keeping me cool and relaxed.
Despite being a tad heavier and coming with the same engine as its predecessor, the new Ford Figo Sports Edition diesel is a treat to drive.
It is obvious that the car’s suspension has been retuned and a lot more sporty genes injected into the vehicle. Bigger 15-inch alloy wheels open up a new chapter in fun driving. The ride quality remains top notch.
The Figo sports edition has an all-black interior -- from inner door handles to the centre console. And, not to miss are the red stitching running across the edges, giving it a premium look. The steering is leather wrapped with red stitching on the inside.
With anti-lock braking system and electronic brakeforce distribution at your beck and call, the Ford Figo Sports Edition is prompt when it comes to braking and handling. The electric power-assisted steering is quite responsive too. The car is also equipped with dual front driver and passenger airbags.
The car has a sporty grille, black inset on headlamp bezel and graphics on the sides and rear with the letter “S” displayed loud and clear. There is an all-new black honeycomb grille.
The sporty stance of this vehicle is further accentuated by the dual-tone exterior with a black painted roof and a new rear spoiler.
