'India can lead in accountancy'

November 04, 2004 20:19 IST
The national association of software and service companies in India has sought partnership with chartered accountants in the areas of information security and data privacy.

"Chartered accountants can develop audit processes and technology to combat the hacking of information and knowledge as it moves in the web to position India as a safe vault to the world," Nasscom president Kiran Karnik said at a conference organised by Institute of Chartered Accountants.

He said the accounting profession would throw up a lot of opportunities for the Indian chartered acountants. "There may be a transition period of an year or two but with the talent base, India would ultimately take over the world in the accountancy sector just like IT sector," Karnik said.

"Accountancy services sector need not be defensive but should face the challenges of globalisation," he added.
