IT trade body Nasscom on Tuesday announced the national roll-out of its assessment and certification program 'Nasscom Assessment of Competence'  in the country, which would be first launched in Rajasthan.

The NAC would be further launched in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Chandigarh, a Nasscom statement said adding the first test will be held in the Jaipur and Ajmer on November 18, 2006.

NAC is aimed at creating a robust and continuous pipeline of talent by transforming the "trainable" workforce into an "employable workforce".

It will also address the potential talent shortage by creating a robust and continuous pipeline of talent through a standard assessment and certification by providing insights into the real training and development needs of talent, it said.

According to the Nasscom-McKinsey Report 2005, India could face a shortage of skilled workforce in the next decade, particularly in ITES-BPO industry.

Currently, only 25 per cent of technical graduates and 10-15 per cent of general college graduates are suitable for employment in the offshore IT and BPO industries, it said.

"In line with our ongoing efforts to strengthen India's IT-BPO workforce, Nasscom has initiated the NAC certification and we expect about 2000 candidates from various colleges would take test in Rajasthan initially", Nasscom president Kiran Karnik said.

He said NAC will also ensure stabilisation of costs in the ITES-BPO industry by enhancing the supply.
