National Association of Software and Service Companies, which has been advocating for data security laws for long, made an about turn on Thursday and said that the industry does not need more laws.

"We are not in favour of legislation (on data security). The industry does not need new laws. The concerns raised by foreign clients over the security of data which they send to India can be addressed by minor changes in IT Law and individual contracts," Nasscom chairman Jerry Rao said.

The apex industry body, however, expressed concern over frequent circulars issued by various taxation authorities in India.

"The frequent circulars from taxation authorities create confusion and problems for companies. At least two cases have come to light where foreign companies, which wanted to set up business process outsourcing operations in India developed cold feet after the infamous circular on taxation of captive BPOs came out," Nasscom president Kiran Karnik said.
