Microsoft launches new instant messaging service

Microsoft Corp launched on Tuesday its instant messaging service, MSN Messenger 6.0, in India, saying it contained more powerful customisation and collaboration features to make internet communication more personalised.

"We think messenger service would emerge as the most popular technological innovation after the telephone and e-mail," Shriram Adukoorie, director, MSN Business Group - South Asia, said during the launch of the latest version of messaging service.

He said messenger 6.0 was aimed mainly at the Internet users of 18-24 age group who want more individuality over anonymity and create their own space in an otherwise impersonal medium.

The users have 30 more icons and can even create their own to suit their mood and needs, besides faster and easier file transfer service, which can be previewed by user before chosing to accept an image.

Another prominent messenger feature enable users to send hand written messages in 'scribble' format from tablet PCs and read in messenger v6 on any personal computer, Adukoorie, who looks heads the MSN network in India, Singapore and Malaysia, said. 

He said messenger service is being used by over 100 million users globally with 11 million in Asia itself where it growing at a phenomenal rate of 75 per cent.
