Eyeing the high-end segment, Motorola on Thursday launched its smart phones jointly with Microsoft, tying up with Hutch as a service provider, which will allow the users to access corporate e-mails, surf Internet, download music and stream video on mobile phones.

Motorola's MPx200 handset which brings the power of PC on a mobile phone will offer users instant access to mails using the Microsoft Outlook interface, chat on MSN Messenger, view documents and files using MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and browse Internet, Percy P Batlivala, GM (South West Asia), Motorola, told newspersons in New Delhi.

Priced at Rs 25,995, MPx200 will be sold at Hutch outlets and by their direct sales teams.

"We are gaining ground steadily in the Indian mobile handset space. The launch of MPx200 and other smart phone models in the coming months should see our marketshare increasing significantly," Batlivala said.

He said the company for the time has tied up with Hutch and will look at similar tie-up with other operators who have general packet radio service. And at present, it is only for GSM services. Whether it would be available for CDMA opeartors, he said, "Stay tuned".

On the Indian market, Batlivala said Motorola was second to Nokia in the GSM space. "India is expected to have 24 million handsets in the current year out of which 14 million are likely to be in the GSM space and remaining on the CDMA space.

Batlivala said that in terms of the size of the market, China, United States and Japan were the top three with Germany and India leading in terms of total subscribers base growth.

Out of the total volume, high-end segment constitutes only 5 per cent of the entire offering from Motorola in India, he said.

"In India, 60 per cent of the revenue comes from low-end phones," he added.

"The MPx200 launch marks a new beginning for Motorola to collaborate on a series of smart phones and pocket PC wireless," he added.

Mpx200 has been launched globally and has global service providers like AT&T, T-Mobile and Orange.
