50.7 million mobile users in India

The addition in mobile users continued its declining trend with 16.59 lakh new subscribers, even as India's mobile subscriber base touched 5.07 crore (50.7 million) by the end of February.

Of the 16.59 lakh new users, while CDMA-based mobile companies added 5.29 lakh users, GSM cellular players added 11.30 lakh new susbcribers.

In January, the country's mobile subscriber base was 4.9 crore with 17.66 lakh new subscribers in the month, while in December, 19.12 lakh new mobile users had joined the list.

In the CDMA category, the total mobile subscriber base stood at 1.1 crore, as per the latest figures by Association of Unified Service Providers of India. In January, 4.96 lakh CDMA-based mobile customers were added.

GSM-based cellular subscriber base was at 11.3 lakh in February compared to 12.7 lakh in January, taking the total subscriber base to 3.97 crore, according to Cellular Operators Association of India figures.

Capturing a market share of 26.79 per cent, Bharti touched a cellular subscriber figure of 1.06 crore in February. In January, it had a subscriber base of 1.02 crore.

State-owned BSNL added 1.47 lakh new users taking its overall subscriber base to 88.20 lakh and a market share of 22.17 per cent, slightly lower than its January market share of 22.44 per cent.

Hutch added 2.15 lakh customers in February with a customer base of 76.46 lakh. It had a market-share of 19.22 per cent in February.

In CDMA segment, Reliance added 3.78 lakh subscribers in February taking the total number to 98.64 lakh. Tatas added 1.52 lakh customers taking the total subscriber base to 10.79 lakh in February.

HFCL added 1,487 mobile subscribers in February at 51,383, while Shyam Telelink gained a subscriber addition of 2005 during the month. It had lost 277 subscribers in January.

In the GSM segment, MTNL, which operates in Mumbai and Delhi, had a subscriber base at 7.8 lakh in February with a market share of 1.97 per cent.

Idea added 1.91 lakh subscribers in February and enjoys a market share of 12.74 per cent.
